Smoking
This graph shows the proportion of our 15-74 year old patients who smoke.
We have obviously become much better at recording things over the years, but still have no record of about 500 people's smoking habit. However, these are people who rarely attend and so are presumably pretty healthy.
Disturbingly we have a fairly stable number of smokers, about 800. The graph doesn't show their ages but our impression is that many of them are young.
Weight
Obesity is becoming as big a danger to health as smoking but, while the number of smokers seems to be constant, the number of obese people is rising.
We have about 800 obese patients. A body mass index (BMI) over 30 has measurable effects on health.
We have another 1200 who are overweight (BMI 25-30). Being overweight is less damaging than being obese but, at any age, the heavier you are the worse the problem.
If you know your height and weight you can calculate your BMI here.
