Information for Patients
Foundation Doctors are recently-qualified. The doctors who come to the practice have been qualified at least a year and have experience of hospital medicine. We hope to give them a view of what general practice is like. Some of them will go on to train in practice as GP registrars and will become GPs. Others will go on to train in a specialism and will become consultants. We hope they will remember their brief time in practice during their hospital careers.
The Foundation Doctors work under the supervision of the GPs, and the GP Trainers in particular. We want to give them the challenge of providing your care, and we want them to take the responsibility for you. We also want to make sure that you get the best care we can give. So there may be longer consultations, consultations with 2 doctors and discussions about your care. Most people seem to enjoy this - patients and doctors learn together.
