Medical Student Training

We have been a teaching practice for the University of East Anglia (UEA) Medical School since 2004.

Ten second-year students spend all day in the practice on twenty-four Fridays each year. They receive teaching and tutorials from Dr Nicky Holmes and Dr David Barton but the most valuable part of their day is the time they spend seeing patients.

Information for Patients

Each week we ask selected patients, who have a medical condition suitable for that week’s subject, to come in and be seen by the students. Attendance is voluntary. Patients receive a full briefing pack and are asked to give written consent to be interviewed and, sometimes, examined.

The medical students also sit in with our own doctors for some of their consultations during Friday morning surgery. The receptionist will tell you if a student is present and there will also be a notice to this effect at the reception desk. Please say if you prefer to see the doctor alone - the choice is entirely yours. This is an extremely valuable part of the teaching day from the students’ perspective and patients who have participated have also found it a rewarding experience.
